About Me Kara Siert was born in Nanning, China in 1995 and adopted at the age of eleven months by her parents in the United States. As an only child being home schooled, she has had the time to develop her gift of writing. As a result she has become a prolific, highly creative writer who has endeared her readers to herself with her imaginative stories. Kara published her first book, Tales of Cunburra and Other Stories, through an amazing charity, Dreams Come True, at the age of ten, while battling bone cancer of the right arm during the first year of her family’s four year military tour in England. Now she presents to you her second major completed work, The Duck That Wasn’t Really a Duck, inspired through her frequent visits to the River Lark in Mildenhall, England in the spring of 2007. Observing the habits of mother ducks with their cute little ducklings and the nesting of swan parents and hatching of their cygnets delighted Kara’s imagination as we walked the path by the scenic river. Now living in Nebraska, at the age of fifteen, by God’s grace, Kara remains cancer-free and continues to write with artistic energy, zeal and passion.
