November 2006 TEN YEAR OLD’S SECOND EDITION MARKED WITH BOOK SIGNING
Young Suffolk-based writer, Kara Siert, aged 10, was signing copies of her book ‘Tales of Cunburra and Other Stories’ on Sunday 5th of November at RAF Lakenheath Library. This signing marks the release of the second edition of her book, endorsed by celebrities Cliff Richard and Emma Forbes and a pivotal time after completing her treatment for Cancer.
Just weeks before Kara’s tenth birthday she was diagnosed with bone cancer in her right arm. Even though faced with this serious illness, her bright smile and loving personality remains unchanged as she continues in the recovery phase of her battle with cancer. Having completed chemotherapy in mid-July, as part of her post-chemotherapy treatment and on the day of the book signing, Kara was checked into the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham to have surgery on her arm to lengthen her titanium rod implant. She continues to have lung x-rays at Addenbrookes every two months to make sure the cancer has not returned.

Despite her illness she continues to write and draw with the artistic energy, zeal and passion of a true writer. Kara has been writing short stories from a very young age and it has always been her dream to have her stories published for others to read. With thanks to children’s charity, Dreams Come True, and Arima Publishing this is now a reality, with over 300 copies of the book now sold; Kara will inevitably become a celebrity in her own right.
