Reader Reviews

Write to me about how much you like my book and I'll post your letters RIGHT HERE! Just put Reader's Review in the subject line.

Letter from Cindy

“Your presentation was really good.  Ms. P said it was better than most adults.  The powerpoint that you made just pulled me in.  I love writing and I want to be a writer than I grow up.”

 – Jordan

“I really liked how you talked about your childhood.  I wouldn’t change anything!  You have so much creativity in you, it is so cool.  Thank you so much for coming to our class.”

 – Alexus

“I thought your book was really, really great!  I can’t wait until you send in your next book. In the beginning of the duck book, you immediately sucked me into your story.  If you get that book published, I will definitely buy it.”

 – Addison

“I love your book!  You inspired me so much, I want to be an author when I grow up.  All of your books are amazing.”

 – Haley

“I like the story you wrote about the duck because you used amazing big words and you described everything like it was right in front of you.”

 – Zach

“Thank you for coming to our classroom!  I enjoyed your visit a lot.  I just finished reading Tales of Cunburra and Other Stories.  It was one of the best books I ever read!  My teacher read your book, The Duck that Wasn’t Really a Duck, to us and it was really good.  I want to be a writer.”

 – Ciara

“Thank you for coming.  I loved your story.  You are a great author.  Keep up the great work.  Your stories are great fun to read!”

– Emmie

“Thank you for visiting our school.  You have got some amazing talent I have never seen.  I love your word fluency and your vocabulary.  You keep writing, Kara!

 – Nathan

“I liked it when you showed us the steps on how to get our own books published if we made one.”

 – Tristin

“Thank you so much for coming to our classroom.  I loved the powerpoint you shared with our class.  It was the best work I’ve ever seen.  It was better than most grown-ups.”

 – Melissa

“In your book, The Duck that Wasn’t Really a Duck, I liked how you explained clearly what the setting was so you could see it in your head.  I also liked how you had each duck narrate within each chapter, and you used big, or royal words, in your book.”

 – Emma

“I loved your book, The Duck that Wasn’t Really a Duck, so much, and so did my teacher!  Ms. Preciado says she is truly inspired by your work.  I am too.  I hope you write tons of books.”

 – Crew

“I liked the book, The Duck that Wasn’t Really a Duck.  I also liked how you gave all the ducks royal names, like Henry and the other names.  From what I’ve heard, your book is great.  I also thought it was pretty funny, too.  I thought the plot and setting were pretty interesting as well.”

 – Bailey

“Thank you for coming to our class, it was inspiring and cool!!!  The thing I liked most about your story was that it felt a bit like a mystery without actually being one.  I also liked the ducks’ names and I liked that you would never know what was going to happen next.”

– Christian

“I really liked your story, The Duck that Wasn’t Really a Duck.  It had very good word fluency.  It was a very inspiring story and it made me want to read more.  I was really hooked, although some parts made me sad, and other parts made me happy.”

 – Taylor

“I loved your story, The Duck that Wasn’t Really a Duck.  I like how the duck Wellington is very intelligent, nice and respectful.  Kara, you used very large and fascinating words in your story.  Ms. P calls them ‘royal words’.”

 – Angie

“I liked your story, The Duck that Wasn’t Really a Duck, because you used words to fit the story.  Also, I liked the attitude that you gave all of the characters.  I thought you gave good names for the characters, too.”

– Michael

“I really like the book, The Duck that Wasn’t Really a Duck.  I think the book is really interesting because the class read the first page and we were hooked in that quick and not a lot of books that I read do that.  I also like the way you used intelligent words and I was thinking in my head what they meant.”

 – Larry

“I really enjoyed having you visit our classroom.  I liked the stories you read to us; I think they were really cool.  I also enjoyed the presentation because I think writing and public speaking is important.  I also really liked learning all about you, besides I think your life is fascinating.”

 – Jacy

“I like three things about your story.  The first thing I liked was when Henry turns into a duck and says he’s a human, which he was, but the duck family thought he was Jerold, their youngest duckling.  Another part I liked was how Wellington, the oldest duckling, says, ‘oughtn’t’.  It was funny.  Lastly, I liked the part where he talked about his family not having a peacemaker.”

 – Jesse

“Thank you for coming to our class and for leaving behind your story, The Duck that Wasn’t Really a Duck.  Here are some of the things that I liked about your story: 1. You used good words.  2. You had a good idea for the story.  3. It was creative.  If it were a finished book I would buy it for $1,000,000,000.  (Actually $10).

 – Austin

“Thank you for coming to visit us.  I had a lot of fun learning about how you make a book.”

– Chloe

“Thank you for coming to our classroom.  I liked the book that we passed around to each other.”

– Carlos

“I loved your visit to the school and I love the duck story.  The story is very interesting.  I hope you will visit us again.”

 – Cassie

“I really enjoyed the book because it’s kind of an adventure.  This book is the only book I really can enjoy.”

 – Noel

Hey Kara! A couple years ago, I went to your Good News Club with Tara when you still lived here. My name is Sarah Roth. I'm borrowing Tara's book that you wrote, so far it's really good. Where did you get all of your ideas for your stories? Well I'm telling you, you're a really good author.

Thanks to Grandmother, Wanda Kassner, I was able to find your website and the story of your most remarkable year.  I live in Rolla, Missouri, USA, where your mother, Linda, was raised.  She and your dad are friends of ours, and of our children.  God has surely blessed your life in unique ways and with special talents.

In Christ,

Charles & Marlowe Scott

Kara, I got your letter and was able to check out your awesome website.  Your strength and compassion is amazing, the world could take a little from you and become a bit like heaven.  I can't wait to start reading your book!

Wow Kara you are amazing!  Your stories (or what I've read of them) are delightful.  You have a splendid imagination and a lovely way with words.  Keep writing!              ~Anna Davy (Orlando, FL)

Hello you don’t know me but you may know my nan. Her name is Sue from Ward 11 at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.  You gave her a book for me and you signed it.  I’ve only read a little bit of it but it’s brilliant I think you sound a lovely girl.  You’re a really, really good writer considering how young you are.  Thank you for my book.

Love from Laura Danille Perry ,(Sue's granddaughter)

Kara,

This is Penny, Nicole's mom - We just reviewed your sneak peek of your fantastic book! And we all think it is so awesome! We plan on ordering a copy for our library at home and sharing it with our friends, you are an inspiration to other children! I really hope Nicole will take the risk of making her dream come true also! Publishing your very own book at your age must bring your self-esteem up and let you accomplish anything else along the way, like a little thing called "cancer". I truly wish you the best and hope you keep taking those risks in life, and maybe even write more stories to make a series, or where ever your dream keeps taking you!!!  Stay strong.... your name will be on our list of favorite authors! Good-Luck Kara

Kara,

This week we close out another year of Sunday School, and of course we think of you!  We are so thankful for all that God has done in your life this past year.  You have had some really hard times, but we are so excited about the progress you have made by His grace.  We are also excited about you getting your book published. We just ordered your book today! How awesome is that?  Can't wait to get it!

We really miss you in our class!  But we know that God has a purpose for you where you are.  We are looking forward to reading your book and bragging that we know the author!

We love you.

Mr and Mrs Young

Dear Kara,

You are an amazing young girl!  You don't know me, but I have known your Dad, your Uncle Mark, Aunt Gwen and Uncle Wayne, and your Grandpa Siert for a long time.  I've known your Dad since he was in grade school in Millard, NE.  Your Dad's good friend, Phil Wizer, is my son. Penny Wizer is my daughter-in-law. They both tell me that you are a special person and, after reading your stories and looking at the website, I certainly agree with their assessment.  I hope to meet you sometime.  I'll tell you some stories about your Dad when he was a kid!

In the meantime, Kara, stay strong and listen to the doctors and your folks as they help you to get through these treatments.  May God keep you safe in the palm of His hands.

Fondly,

Elsie Middleton, Scottsdale, AZ

I read the story “A King?” and LOVED it.

Emma Hughes

Hi Kara, this is Renee Ullrich from Omaha Ne. I don't know if you really knew me, but I know that our parents talked a lot. You are very good at writing for your age, and I think you should keep it up. Maybe someday you'll end up being a famous writer! Wouldn't THAT be cool! You have gone through so much, and I think you're a little survivor. I hope you will write more stories to share, they really mean a lot, especially when a ten year old girl writes them!

Renee Ullrich :-)

Kara,

We have enjoyed looking at your website.  We read the story about Bee-Bee and loved it!  We are praying for you and hope you feel better!
